Many buildings were damaged in different degrees after 921 Earthquake. The aftershock always follows the main shock. Therefore, the seriously damaged buildings should be prohibited from use in order to ensure more peoples' security. To estimate the dangerous degree of the damaged building for victims is the first thing to do to prevent the damage from expanding.

For a long time, we have set up a post-disaster building administration system. For this reason, we have trained up estimators to do prompt estimation for buildings damage extent. Since October 1987, we started to hold training programs for architects, construction technicians and structure technicians. To June 1999, we have totally trained 1502 people.

Mobilized to estimate the building damage extent in disaster areas

 In order to help the rescue in whole country in 921 Earthquake Disaster, we offer the building damage estimating service and suggestions. We especially coordinated with architects, structure engineers and civil engineer association to estimate the degree of the damaged building in 921 Earthquake.

At that time, architect association mobilized about 500 people, civil engineer association, about 300 people, structure engineer association, about 300, to exert the disaster inspection day and night. Like the counseling president of civil engineer association, Zhang Tien guan, his relative died in the disaster area when doing the rescue mission. President Zhang endured his sadness and continued exerting on the inspection. Civil engineer Weng Guan Qun who is responsible for personal coordination and assignment, worked too hard and got sick. When he was sent to the hospital, he still held the mobile phone to do his job. It was very admirable.
