Reinforcement of assembly houses in Guo Xing Hsiang,Nan Tou County.
     
On the recorded document, the number of collapsed houses in 921 was 8457 and half-collapsed, 6204. The scene was miserable. Also, due to continual aftershocks, people in disaster areas daren't live in the buildings, most people stayed in tents temporarily. But tents are hot and don't resist wind and rain. Living, laundry, environmental hygiene, and disease prevention were all extremely difficult. Therefore, Executive Yuan indicated to finish the construction of assembly houses to shelter victims as soon as possible.

Urgent mission of establishing assembly houses

After we received the urgent mission of establishing assembly houses, we collected the information of the

lands that are available for temporary construction in county/city in middle of Taiwan in Sep. 22 1999 and separately proceeded the earlier performance of inspection one place at a time. The people drawing-up the designs sacrificed their mid-moon vacation and worked overtime on the planning in the situation of unstable power-supply. They even continued working on the documents with candles during the nights of power failure.

All of the staff worked day and night. We have continuously done the assembly houses construction bids and totally finished 499 assembly houses in 5 communities and drawn reference drawings of the temporary residences for people to see.
