學名：Alnus japonica (Thunb.) Steud.

別名：台灣赤楊、水柯仔、水柳柯。

產地：東亞；台灣平地至海拔 2500m 之山地。

性狀：落葉喬木。葉互生，卵形或橢圓形，鋸
齒緣；托葉明顯，常脫落。花單性，雌雄同株
；雄花序葇荑狀；雌花序呈圓柱形之穗狀花序
，每苞片具2-3朵花。小堅果橢圓形。

用途：樹可做肥料木，材供加工。

Formosan alder Betulaceae

Native to Taiwan, comminly found from low to
2500m in elevation of the island; also eastern Asia.

Adecidious tree. Leaves alternate, ovate or oblong,
margins serrate; stipules distinct, caducous. Flowers
unisexual, dioecious; male inflorescence catkins;
female inflorescences conelike spike, each bract
with 2-3 flowers. Nutlets oblong.

Commonly used for soils fertilization.
