:::Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park is a large-scale public park that has been planned and built by the Construction and Planning Agency of the Ministry of the Interior. The park is the first regional forest park to be set up under the Executive Yuan's "Blueprint for the Development of Metropolitan Regional Leisure Facilities in the Taiwan Area." Situated on the borderline between Kaohsiung County and Kaohsiung City, the park provides residents of the Kaohsiung metropolitan area with a place for outdoor recreation and leisure.

In addition to this objective , the main idea behind the park's construction was to achieve the goal of protecting environmental resources and improving the local environment. For this reason the park incorporates an extensive 60-hectare forest plant area, while other zones in the park are also widely planted with all kinds of distinctive flora, making these a major scenic resource within the park as well as an ideal place for environmental education.
